Install a file .APK

Given that the procedure may vary based on the Android version or brand of the device.

If you need to install a downloaded .apk file with an internet browser, you will need to grant permissions to the app in question, for example Google Chrome, when you try to open the .apk file you will simply have to move the lever to ON.

If you have already downloaded it and are opening it for example from a File Manager, you will have to go to the settings and search

I’ll try to list some possibilities here in different versions of Android:

  • Settings > Privacy > Apps with special access > Install unknown apps.
  • Apps & Notifications and Advanced > Apps with special access/Special app access > Install unknown apps.
  • Settings > Applications > At the top right, tap â‹® > Special access > Install unknown apps.
  • Settings > Security > Device Administration > Enable Unknown Sources.

When you have installed the apk you are interested in, I recommend you go and deactivate the permissions you have just granted, mainly for a security factor.
